Where Feet May Fail

I was talking to a wonderful spiritual friend of mine tonight about this song. It brings about a sense of spiritual fulfillment and inner peace. This feeling can only come from the heavens above. Have you ever felt The Sprit’s presence in your heart? Truly and deeply felt it? If you have, you know that there is nothing comparable.

Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) – Hillsong United

“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever you would call me. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, and my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my savior”

Notice that she uses the word “presence” to describe her relationship with Jesus. She does not only worship and love him, but he is PRESENT in her life. She FEELS Him with her. This alone makes her faith stronger. But it is an active way of living… we need to be conscious of our savior on a daily basis in order to feel his presence. Anyone who has ever experienced a spiritual drought knows that it is easy to be on a journey with The Lord one day and feel lost a week later. Although The Lord is always with us, our human sin has allowed us to fall away from Him. When we fail, he is strong. When we fall, he lifts us up even higher.

“Your grace abounds in deepest waters. Your sovereign hand will be my guide”

We all want to be in the water with him even in the biggest storms, simply because we are with Him. He doesn’t leave us when we are in deep waters with crashing waves; he allows us to stay afloat. Sometimes The Lord will bring you to a deep place in your life. Let him lead and teach you. Give yourself to Him and allow him to be in control. When you stop thrashing, the water will be calmer.

He brings us closer to him and comforts us in our times of distress. We so often go to our significant other, our best friend, or even our parent when we want to be comforted… but the true and real comfort can only come from our Savior. We sometimes fall away from this wonderful feeling we get when filled with The Spirit and instead try to fill that hole with other things in our life such as shopping, sports, our career, studies, or friends. We should be filling the gaps in our life with the living water of The Spirit. We should strive to know this feeling of true peace so well that when we fall away and turn towards other things, we can be reminded of what we are missing. You cannot know what you are missing until you have experienced it.

If you have a loved one in your life who has never experienced the true presence of The Holy Spirit, PRAY. That is all we can do, but it is the best thing to do. If you truly believe that God is good and will provide, let prayer be your solace. Fill your own heart with The Spirit and be the light in this person’s life. As my good friend told me on the phone tonight, The Lord may take a while to open a door. His plans rarely fall in line with our own timing, but there is a reason for that! I believe that The Lord wants us to remember that we are not the ones who know everything, therefore we are not the ones who should be dictating how and when things happen. He wants us to experience him in a deep and relational way, but He has perfect timing. My friend and I have both been convicted of the same thing for a few days now and have not talked about it until tonight! I have been praying over this particular issue for months, but there is a reason that The Lord brought it to each of our hearts in such a strong way within the past few days. We do not always know it ahead of time, but there is a reason for everything. So, have faith. Remember you have the most perfect and loving lifeguard.
